6. Tell us about the entrepreneurial journey you guys undertook.
Dave – Wow, answering that could be an entire book! The short version: we built Onehundred around crowd funding and local manufacturing – it’s the first 100% crowd-launched brand.
After my experience launching a previous company, struggling to find financing for it, building up a brand reputation, achieving sustainable revenue – this second venture was a DREAM. We were cash-positive and debt-free by noon on the first day of business, we owned the company 100% and we were in complete control of what we would make next – all thanks to crowd funding.
We’ve since run 12 projects that collectively have raised $600K. All of them were successful and shipped on time, and we’ve gone on to be an advisor on 12 others. All together, we’ve raised or helped to raise $1.7M in crowd funding.
7. You guys did an amazing job with the campaign. We’d love to hear more about how you went about it, what were the opportunities, the challenges, the roadblocks etc.
Dave – Spyn is our 12th campaign – through a lot of trial and error, studying other campaigns and talking with our backers about why they back projects, we have created a system that works well for us. Take good care of them and they will take good care of you!
8. What would be your guru mantra that you’d like to give to budding entrepreneurs for funding?
Dave – It’s good to prepare yourself in advance: It’s harder then it looks, takes longer then you imagine, and delivers less then you expect.
9. And finally, if given a chance to reach out to all the entrepreneurs, what would you like to say to them?
Dave – We’re big fans of crowd funding in general and Kickstarter in particular – it has made starting a business easier then ever.
